Extremism & Radicalisation

We recognise that protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of our wider safeguarding responsibilities and is similar in nature from protecting children from other forms of harm and abuse. We recognise that it is possible to intervene to prevent vulnerable people from becoming radicalised and that extremists often target the young and vulnerable by seeking to sow divisions in communities on the basis of race, faith or denomination

Extremism goes beyond terrorism and is defined by The Government’s Counter Extremist Strategy as:

vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, together with calls for the death of members of our armed forces, whether in this country or overseas’.
