Christ the King Catholic Primary School

Assemblies

This week in Assembly, we learned about  All Saints Day, and how it is an hugely important day of the church. we learned what a Saint is, and thought about our own class Saints.

A saint is a person who lived a virtuous, Holy life, who offered their lives for others or who died for their faith. They are heroes of the church, who loved God and did His work whilst on earth and are now with him in Heaven (all saints have died and are in Heaven) Saints are recognised after their death and are beatified and canonized (made into saints) by the Pope.

This week in assembly we learned that Jesus taught us that to be the first or the greatest, they must make themselves the last and the servant of all.

We learned about the life of Baroness Floella Benjamin, who came to Great Britain in the 1960s as part of the Windrush generation and faced prejudice and racism. We leaned that she became the first black female presenter of children's television, championing diversity and equality in children's entertainment. She campaigned for a children's minister to champion children's rights in parliament, became Chancellor of Exeter University and works tirelessly for children's charities all over the world.

She is an inspiration to us all- and shows us that through hard work, perseverance and determination you can become great through being a servant to all.

Mrs Lane met Baroness Floella Benjamin and learned about her life, her passions and her determination to fight for children's rights.
